The Future of QR Codes

QR Codes: Fizzle or Sizzle?

Are QR codes merely a sexy concept with no guts? Staying power equals value not only to marketers and businesses, but to Millennials, their kids and anyone else going smart and digital. It’s not just about mining data. Value begets trust. And trust lies in knowing that kids will be safe scanning them and adults will not land on virus-laden landing pages. Appealing to vanity doesn’t hurt, either. Marketers are figuring out how to make QR codes unique not only in content, but as eye-candy for the curious soul who’s smartphone never leaves their side.

Recognition Wrapped Up

Novelties flare up and fizzle out. QR codes are worldwide, on buildings, on doorways, in schools and on gravestones. Will QR codes, RFID tags and near field communication eventually merge into one giant game of tag, you’re it? It may not be so far-fetched. Fitting an ultra-tiny nano-tag onto a QR matrix may make QR codes scannable from afar. Or will the future lie in scanning codes and tracking what is being scanned from what location?

Simple and Imaginable

Can augmented reality keep us connected as human beings? What if satellites go down or power grids fall prey to cyber-attack? Can the digital generation go back to the future? You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. We are caught like bugs in a spider web. Our lives seem rich, efficient and techno-seamless…the future lies in walking that virtual bridge without toppling off…but, then again, QR codes are just getting our feet wet.
